My first post - what else would you call it?

I've toyed with the idea of starting a blog since I graduated college in 2009. . . it's now 2011 and I'm just getting started. Whoops! Oh well, life happens.

My purpose for this blog is simple - I have something to say and I think someone, somewhere, might benefit from it. I'm not trying to be arrogant -  I just believe that we learn best through other people's experiences.

This thought was became clear when I launched my personal story in the Daily Hampshire Gazette about how I struggle(d) with eating and exercise abuse. Readers from all over emailed their thanks for sharing my experiences with them, letting them know they were not alone in their fight with the "Not Otherwise Specified" disorder and finally putting a name to something they thought was all in their heads.

I was overwhelmed by the fact that not only did people read what I wrote . . . but it helped them! My words, my thoughts, my personal agony, my embarrassment and shame helped someone else. That made what I've been through worth it.
I'm determined to write more but have struggled with finding the right venue.
Feature style stories and personal thoughts have always been more fitting for me then writing news stories. It's as easy as having a conversation with yourself though much less conspicuous.

3 months have passed and I got yet another email from someone who stumbled across my article on the web. Like the others, she thanked me for sharing my story and told me she was going to her doctor the next day (with my article in hand) to address her issues and secure a referral for a specialist. After hearing her story I was settled - writing was a must and it seamed that blogging would provide the space I need. If anything, this will give me a chance to bounce ideas off of you (the reader) and open myself up to friends
and family in a comfortable way. Maybe I don't know what I'm getting myself into?  :)

Some blogs I follow have a certain theme to them whether it be running, cooking or things of a spiritual nature. Holy Pajamas! won't have a theme - it can't because my life doesn't have a theme or set course. I think about everything and anything and that is (I expect) how my topics will go.

Please feel free to comment as you are lead. As I said above, my hope is that by sharing some of my experiences or thoughts I have, I will help someone else - somehow. It's not for me to decide, just for me to put the words down.

And for those who are wondering, Holy Pajamas! is my favorite and most used expression. I picked it up from, "Shag: The Movie" and I recommend seeing it at least once before you die.
